We will be having a New Moon in Libra on Monday, October 12th in the Americas and on Tuesday, October 13th everywhere east of there (12:06 am Universal Time). New Moons are the beginning of the 29.5 day moon cycle and signal a fresh start for the following month.

This is when there is no light on the Moon, but the beginning of when the light slowly starts to increase again, becoming visible over the following days. This is known as the beginning of the waxing phase, which lasts until the Full Moon and is associated with growth, expansion, and unfoldment.

New Moons are a great time to plant seeds, set intentions, or perform actions in relation to what you would like to grow or manifest over the upcoming cycle. It is best to do this as close to the minute of the New Moon as possible, but it can also be done over the following 24 hours (click here to find out for your time zone).

As the moon’s light grows and expands, your intentions and actions could continue to develop further. How everything unfolds for each person also depends on how one is being individually influenced by the astrology.

Libra: Relationships, Balance, Equality, Diplomacy, and Beauty

libra-glyphLibra is the sign of relating and its energy is very much consistently oriented around the consideration of others. It strives for what is fair and harmonious. Under the rulership of Venus, Libra is also associated with beauty and creativity.

As an air sign, it is social and intellectual. Through these qualities we find ourselves finding the balance or imbalance between ourselves and others in the pursuit of equality. Co-dependency is also a Libra theme, and during this moon cycle we can find ourselves in new beginnings around this.

New Moon Opposite Uranus in Aries

Uranus is associated with sudden changes and revelations that are unexpected and can be exciting and/or disrupting.  It is about individual freedom, and can also be revolutionary and rebellious, especially when in the sign of Aries.

With Uranus in an opposition to this New Moon, this implies that the new beginnings in relationships and co-dependencies will take into consideration a new awareness and/or changes that have occurred either last month and/or this upcoming month.  For some people it could be about working within the constructs and finding a new sense of individual freedom within relationships.  For others, it could manifest into finalizing a breakup or separation that has been developing since the beginning of summer.

Venus in Virgo, in a T-Square with Neptune and Saturn

Venus is the ruler of this New Moon. It has just finished its post retrograde phase and is also positioned in a way that demonstrates new beginnings. This applies to our values, relationships, and in some cases, it can apply financially as well. In Virgo, Venus is less playful and fun-loving (compared to other signs), and more focused on what we devote ourselves to.

Neptune in Pisces in opposition to Venus can represent some confusion and disillusionment that can influence our devotions and values. It can also indicate that unrealistic expectations, as well as self-sacrificing and/or lack of self-worth, are a potential challenge here.

Saturn in Sagittarius in a square aspect to these two planets is a call to be realistic and perhaps restructure our perspective around any of the issues mentioned above. Saturn is also making a nice aspect to Mercury in Libra, which just finished its retrograde. Over the last 3 weeks we have been in a time of reconsidering and reflecting, and over this new moon cycle we are moving forward with a new perspective.

Making Intentions For This New Moon

This moon cycle is very much about moving forward in new ways around relationships, our devotions, values, and how we assert ourselves in a way that is fair and equal. However there is also a need to consider what is in your best interest as an individual and finding that balance between this and the consideration of others.

Are you able to find that middle ground in your relationships and/or other areas of life? Do you need to assert yourself in a way that is more fair and equal? Do you need to liberate yourself from self-sacrificing situations where fairness, equality, and/or harmony is unattainable?  During this New Moon, our intentions should be based around these Libra themes.

astrology horoscopeRemember that it is best to set your intentions within the first 24 hours after the New Moon (click here to find out for your time zone). You can declare them by speaking out loud, but even better is to either write them down in words or illustrate images which reflect what it is you intend. You can also do a combination of these techniques, or employ any other means which make sense to you.

As the lunar month unfolds, allow the required process to take place to help you with these intentions, and ultimately, whatever is in the best interests of your personal development.
